After I turned 12, I attended girls camp every summer until 2008, when Birdie was born. I always looked forward to to spending a few days at Darby Girls Camp, as a youth, a “helper” (I went up two years in a row “unofficially” after high school to help with rock climbing and to go on the hikes), camp director, and also as a member of the ward Young Women Presidency.
It’s pretty clear that Darby holds a special place in my heart. I LOVE it up there. No. I really, really love it there. I think it is one of the prettiest places on Earth.
We had the opportunity to spend a couple of days there for the Hart Family Reunion. It was the first time I had been back, and so many things had changed! (i.e. no disgusting bathrooms and showers to clean…WHAT??? The bathrooms are all updated and super nice. The girls that go up there these days don’t know what they are missing! ;) The cabins are all painted on the inside. There is a sand volleyball court all set up. There are steps leading to the big slide (no more tree roots to trip over…). The lodge was clean with different plaques added to the walls. It all looked different, but the spirit there was still the same.
For two days, we went down the slide…
played in the sand,
and just spent time together.
More great memories to add to my Darby collection.
