Recovery

I’ve been taking all these great pictures while I have been here because I have this great blog post in mind.  I have the whole thing all written out and ready to go except one thing…I can’t get the pictures!!  I have them on my phone and I e-mailed them to myself (twice) so that I could save them to my laptop, and guess what?  Those pictures are floating around somewhere in cyberspace.
I suppose that when they finally reach my inbox (twice!) I’ll have a fantastic post and lots of meaningful pictures.  Stay tuned.

In the meantime, however, I wanted to give a quick update on our little man.  He had his big surgery on June 6.  We took him to the OR around 8 a.m. and he was returned to his suite in the CVICU at around 7 p.m. It was an extremely long day.  I drank Diet Coke and made bows for the little girls in the CVICU as well as those staying at the Ronald McDonald House (affectionately coined as “The RMD”).    Ace mastered several levels of Bubble Pop Plus (check that one out Doug and Cheri!!), a Jewel Game, and Scramble with Friends.  A friend of my sisters (and now a friend of mine…) brought us delicious sandwiches and some much needed chocolate (and Diet Coke…which I drank…).

When Dr. Hanley (respectfully referred to as “Mighty Stanford”) came to tell us that his portion of the surgery was completed, I felt like bawling, and I had to seriously resist the urge to give him the biggest hug ever.  I can’t describe the relief I felt, other than a huge, heavy weight off my shoulders.

When we were able to see our little Boge-ster, he looked so much better than I had imagined (believe it or not, I had quite a drastic picture in mind of what I would see after surgery).  He had a couple of chest tubes for drainage, lots more IV’s, and a bigger, fatter breathing tube.  He was however, quite comfortable and sleepy.  He rested for about 2 days before they started lighting up on the sedatives.

His right lung was the weakest and took quite some time to function and expand as it should—which in turn led to more days on the ventilator (my nemesis).  I have been relatively calm and collected since the surgery (I can’t say the same for the few days prior to surgery) and I am quite positive none of the doctors or nurses have had to call for the social worker or security.  (I may or may not have been my best self…let’s just call it stress.)

We will be here for a couple more weeks at least, but the future is looking brighter.  We’ve been so blessed.  So many little things have happened that I look back on now and see how Heavenly Father orchestrated all of those events to play out for our best interest.  Going through those hard times I wondered where God was, but now I realize and clearly see, He was with us the whole time.  He never left us.  I know I’ve said this before, but I am saying it again, He KNOWS each one of us, and He KNOWS our needs…down to the very smallest details.

Until those other pics are recovered, these will have to suffice. :)

So glad to hear the surgery went well. It really can be hard to see the good when you're faced with life's challenges, especially those involving such a little body. You're doing a fine job of keeping your head above water and holding strong.

Little Bogey looks adorable in that puppy outfit! And so handsome in white!
