Redemption

So, if any of you read my post a few months ago about our trip to the Doctor's office, you'll understand the title of this post.

Today I took Birdie, to her 15 month check up. Gimmee, Mulligan, and the neighbor girl, came along as well. You can imagine how things went. 4 children (under the age of 5) and 1 adult (nearing insanity).

I learned my lesson last time though, and scheduled this appointment for 1:00 p.m. Late enough in the day to get primped and proper, but smack dab in the middle of nap time for both Birdie and Mulligan. Nonetheless, Birdie was bathed, fed and looking super cute (with a fashionable haircut--Thanks again Gimme!). I even made the effort to freshen up my make up (applied earlier on the same day).

We made it to the doctor's office in plenty of time (without speeding)and that was good. (Bonus points for me!) When we walked in, I was holding Birdie and Mulligan who were both fast asleep. I'm sure everyone in that crowded office thought, "Ahh, what a great mom. Two sleeping children, how tender...wow! Two more in tow! She must be outstanding!"

Then things started getting awkward. I already mentioned the office was packed to almost capacity. Gimmee and neighbor went to play on with the (germ infested, I'm sure) toys on the other end of the room from where I was sitting. As I sat down, I noticed Gimme brought in some pictures from the van.

It didn't take long for Gimme and Neighbor to set up shop and spread their pictures (about 30 in all) out on the bench and floor. Pretty soon, Gimme picked up a picture and shouted, "MOM! WHO IS THIS AGAIN?" All eyes in that waiting room went from the picture, then to me. It suddenly became terribly hot. I just smiled at Gimme and gave her the 'be quiet' look that she gets during sacrament meeting sometimes. She knows what it means. But, she repeated her question, only louder. I signaled for her to just walk over to me. So she did. I kindly asked her to gather her pictures up and put them away. Then she asked a third time (not in a whisper either) "Mom, who is this?" I still had the audience.

"It's Joseph F. Smith". I mumbled.

Gimme, still shouting: "OH YEAH. JOSEPH F. SMITH!" As if President Smith was her long lost best friend.

Finally the nurse came out and called our name. I was relieved, until Gimme and neighbor started making their way towards me, dropping pictures of past prophets, and current apostles along their way, and strangers helping to pick them up as they give me curious looks.

But hey. I'm sure the doctor was impressed. It only LOOKED like we were putting on a show of how righteous we really are. I just wish Gimme would have delivered when the doctor held up the picture of President Monson and asked "Who is this?" Gimme just stared at him.

Clueless.

There goes our cover.

Oh well. We've got til December 18th to review.

If that doesn't work out, I may need a couple of kids to borrow. The more kids, the better I look, right? :)

Wow! I'd award you "Mother of the Year" for teaching your kids the names of the past prophets. Good job!

Oh my gosh, that is hillarious! I can totally picture it and it just makes me laugh. I go into dr.'s offices with two and feel overwhelmed so you still get props in my book!

Hilarious! Can't wait for the madness to ensue when we have more. So far, Corey has faithfully come to every appointment of Zach's with me- he can't stand for Zach to get shots without him there. Sweet, huh? But I think the people there have the opposite thoughts about us, like, "Do you really BOTH need to be here for a well child check?" Ha!

I do love your stories, but am very glad they aren't mine!!
Next time you have an appt. and lots of kids to take with you, you can call me and see if I'm free, I'll tag along to help keep kids occupied and help pick up pictures, although I'm not sure if I could would know the answers to who they were. :)
