Doctors Order

I woke up this morning at 5:45 and went to the river. When I got home, I was so so tired, I felt like I "deserved" a little nap before everyone woke up. So I drifted off to sleep and woke up to Ace leaving for work. Whoops. I hope Ace took a couple of those chocolate chip cookies he had for breakfast to work so he gets his nutrition for the day (wife of the year---I made the cookies just last night, so they were extremely fresh for him first thing this morning!).

All of the sudden, at 8:35 a.m. I get this surge of panic! I had scheduled doctors appointments for both Gimme and Birdie (I thought killing two birds with one stone was a super idea at the time...) at 8:45 a.m. Who did I think I was? Super Woman?

After rattling the children from their deep sleep, I rushed them into the van. Mulligan with no shoes on, Gimme with unbrushed teeth, and Birdie's hair looking similar to the feathers on a hens head. Oh, I looked like I just rolled out of bed...oh wait, I did just roll out of bed. My hair didn't look much better than Birdie's, let alone ANY animal on a farm (oh, and I didn't smell much better either). But nonetheless, we pressed on to the doctor's office.

When we arrived, I had Gimme take a swig of Diet Coke to rinse out her morning breath, (see, I'm always thinking ahead...I just knew the doc would be checking her throat, and I didn't want him to think we just barely got out of bed for the day...) Mulligan happened to have shoes in the car (whew, glad I didn't clean out the car!) and Birdie's Nutirgrain bar I gave her for breakfast (one step up from the cookies, I might add) was evenly smeared on her face and hands, and thankfully she managed to get some tangled in her mowhawk , so her look was complete.

We marched through those doors at 8:53 a.m. and checked in. I was estatic that it only took us 7 minutes to get there (record time)! But then I turned and looked at the people in the waiting room, and realized I probably wasn't going to get the "Mother of the Year" award. Me in my sweaty, stinky running clothes, my children as described above, wouldn't hold a candle to those mother's sitting in there--showered, hair done, make-up on (although, I have to say I had make up on, so I can't beat myself up about that. So what if it was yesterday's that I was too tired to wash off, it still counts for something). Plus, their children were all bathed and looking sharp!

Oh well.

The girls did great, Gimme passed the eye exam and got her shots for kindergarten. Birdie got shots too--it'll be a pleasant week or so. Mulligan didn't want to miss out on any action, so he kept pegging the doctor with his little soccor ball. I couldn't do a thing about it. I was holding Birdie and Gimme on the table.

It's all done now. Over. Thank goodness.

Birdie's 15 mo. check up is on Sept. 22. Will someone remind me? I've got some serious ground to cover to reedem myself (and my kids)!

You're hilarious! I've so been there before, although boys' hair is a little easier to pass off as done when it's really not. :) I'm just impressed you went running. Could you rub some of that ambition off on me?

What in the world are you doing up so early anyway? Training for a marathon or something? Very impressive. By the way, who really brushes their kids' hair before 11 AM?

That is awesome...but not...all at the same time. I put all reminders in my phone so that it rings to tell me! I tend to forget those appointments too. I'll vote for you ;0)
