Spring Break/Break from Spring

Last week was Spring Break. It was FREEZING cold all week. However, I felt like we needed to make the most of it, so Gimme and I made a list of things that we wanted to to as a family during the week. Here's the breakdown (mostly for Ace who missed out on all of this because he is away working in Blanchard):

On Monday we went and played on the toys at Bush Elementary. It was so fun (except Birdie found the pile of dog poo and stepped in it about 3 steps out of the van...blasted dog.) It's a good thing we got the outdoor activity out of the way since it snowed the rest of the week.
Tuesday we went to see Alvin and the Chipmunks the Squeakual. Nothing like a fat vat of popcorn to ease the thoughts of head lice on the theater chairs.

Wednesday we had a cousin picnic party. We went to my sister's house and took Wendy's burgers and nuggets (in a picnic basket) and popped more popcorn and watched Alvin and the Chipmunks. We couldn't get enough of those critters! It was so fun to be with our Idaho Falls cousins!! We are really going to miss them.

On Thursday I promised Gimme we would go swimming in the evening. She was suited up by 3 and kept asking if it was time to go. We had to go buy those noodle things and goggles since my kids freak out if they get water anywhere near their eyes.

I have to be honest here...I WAS NOT looking forward to this swimming bit. I don't mind getting water near my eyes, I freak out when I have to wear a swimming suit...in public. Gag.

But, I had to go. So I stuffed myself into my hideous suit and off we went. My strategy was to dash from the dressing room and get into the pool as quickly as possible and then just stay in the pool at ALL times. Unfortunately Gimme, Mulligan, and Birdie had a different idea. The three of them cowered at the edge and refused to get in. So there I was in all my swimsuit glory dragging three screaming children into the pool. Hey, I just paid $10 (plus the goggles and noodles), and put on a swimsuit...those kids WILL swim and they WILL have a good time.

Mulligan had a hold of the strap of my suit, so for the first little while, I was at his command (little conniver). Whatever he requested, I granted. If I didn't, he'd start a little tantrum and pull that strap off my shoulder. So he got what he wanted.

By the end however, all three were jumping off the edge to me, and they loved it, so the 2 hours of the swim suit torture was well worth it. (Note to self: one less cookie now and again won't hurt a thing...)

Friday night my sister, mom and I went to a movie (When in Rome) while the kids and my sister's husband watched Princess and the Frog. I owe my sister's husband big (Matthew, how 'bout a free round of golf at Stoneridge Golf Club this summer? Is that payment enough? 2 rounds? 3?).

Finally Saturday rolled around (as did more snow) and I set up a treasure hunt for my kids (since I am ANTI Easter Bunny) around the house and yard. They gathered eggs filled with candy and their treasure was conference activity books and Easter baskets. It was great not having to fight the crowds!

Then of course we finished off the day by coloring Easter eggs. It was a fat mess, (Who invented this tradition anyway?) but the kids thought it was the best thing ever...well at that moment at least. :)

So there you have it. Our entire week. Phew.

Wow! You're great, I don't think I've had that much energy since I was young.
AND I thought I was the only one who wondered about head lice or something icky on the theatre seats!! :) I never told anyone before, I'm glad I'm not the only neurotic (about germs) person out there.

That sounds like a full week. Kudos to you taking the kids swimming. I dont' think I would tackle that alone. without Kyle as I am afraid one of my kids would drown.

I dont' think i have ever thought about getting lice at the theater. Thanks for that.

And how was When in Rome. i have been wondering about seeing that.

What a fun week. Glad to see that despite the weather you guys were able to have fun. Sorry to hear that Daddy is working far away. That's so tough. I hope it doesn't last too much longer.

First of all, you have nothing to worry about when it comes to swimsuits, not that I've ever seen you in one, but I do know how skinny you are! Secondly, swimming with all the kids, none of which can swim, by yourself is enough to get you a Mother-of-the-year award by anyone's standards. Wow!! I don't even like to take my kids by myself and they can all swim!!

I love it! What fun!!! And all of those adventures out and about? amazing. I mean seriously. I sometimes struggle trying to even get OUT of the house with 2! You are definitely my shining light.

Kay, so reading your swimming story and then seeing you had pictures afterwards made me wonder if you were going to put pictures on your blog about swimming. I was then going to compliment you on your bravery because I wouldn't want to put myself in one of those and have my picture taken. The story was cool though. You always have fun posts. Thanks, Rachelle. BTW, maybe I missed it (very possible), but what's in Blanchard?
