Mind Games

Last night, I ventured outside for a little jog. I left my house with my i-pod in place and my watch set. I was so glad to be off of the treadmill that I didn't mind the 20 degree weather.

I don't know if anyone else struggles with the things that go on in the brain during running, but I sure do. When I'm on the treadmill, I can't think of enough things to keep my mind off of the monotony of running in place. The more I think about it, the more bored I become, and then all of the sudden I can't run another step! I might be nuts.

So, last night as I was running, my mind was somewhat normal. I was just concentrating on my steps so I wouldn't slip and fall on the ice. When I got to Ammon Road, I was feeling really motivated and good, so I turned up my tunes.

After a little while, I started getting a little winded and tired, but suddenly David Archuletta (my most recent feddish) started singing "Don't stop running". So I didn't. I kept going! Next thing I knew, I was nearing 17th street! I was so excited that I had made it that far on such a cold night. By the time the song got over, I had reached the intersection and I was so proud of myself.

Then it hit me.

Hey David A.! (Please, of course he's reading this--I'm his #1 fan) maybe your next song should include lyrics like, "Hey idiot, the farther you go, the farther it is to get back!"

It was dark now. It was still cold. The bottom of my pants were soaked. My shoes were also soaked. But I turned around and started back. By the time I reached Wood Funeral home I was thinking I had better go in and call Ace so he could come and get me, but unfortunately it looked pretty dead in there (Pun intended...I crack myself up!). Of course my only option was to keep on running (thanks David.)

When I neared our subdivision, I had a second wind and felt strong again, but I didn't want to risk wimping out, so I just went home.

See? It doesn't matter where I am running, my mind all of the sudden morphs into craziness...

The 13.1 miles I plan on running this summer ought to be interesting...

Stay tuned for that story! :)

I am impressed. Seriously. I am patting myself on the back today for taking Zach on a 2-3 mile jaunt around the neighborhood in 65+ degree weather. It's the most exercise I've gotten in quite awhile- unless shopping with Cheryl counts! You are amazing!

Wow! I would have gone into Alberston's or somewhere and called when I realized I was that far! Good job! I would not be brave enough to even attempt that in Jan!!

Cute blog, I found you off Dana's page. That is impressive, you were so close to Jamba Juice!! lol I would say invite me next time you go running, but I would rather stay warm and dry on my laptop blogging. Typing burns calories right?

Ah, Rachelle; you always crack me up!! I can always depend on your blog for a good laugh! Nice work on the running, by the way! I have given up on running, I get WAY too bored EVERY TIME!! I have to stick to P90X to keep my attention(something different every day)! Props to you!

You are hilarious, I say.
I love it!
If all else fails, you can just make a David A, "Don't Stop Running" playlist and listen to only that during your 13 miler.
Not only will the motivational lyrics push you onward, but so will your desire to run faster than you ever dreamed so you don't have to listen to it one more time!

Ok, tell me more about your house! We have to be out by May 1st, when are you moving? I'd love to rent your place, but we can't afford too much. Email me camillepardo@hotmail.com and we'll talk more! (I guess I could call you, but the screaming children on either end doesn't compare to the calm of email:)
